Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Will Feature a Second City — “Like Chicago Gone Wrong”
One of the creators of the Cyberpunk universe, Mike Pondsmith, has shared the first details about the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, currently in development under the codename Project Orion. According to him, the game will feature a second city with a vibe that feels like "Chicago gone wrong." Night City will still be present too.
Pondsmith noted that he’s not as directly involved in the project as before, but he still reads the scripts and visits the studio. Recently, he spoke with an environment artist who showed him the new location. He liked it right away — the atmosphere clicked instantly, and he described it as a decaying version of Chicago.
Fans have long speculated that the new city might indeed be Chicago. In the game’s lore, the city went through an economic collapse, corporate wars, and even a bioplague. And in Phantom Liberty, there’s an ending that jumps forward several years, revealing that a maglev line between Night City and Chicago has finally been completed.
Still, the game is a long way off — Orion is only in pre-production. CD Projekt plans to release The Witcher 4 first, and only then return to the cyberpunk world.
