Clash Royale is bringing back Retro Royale, a fan-favorite event that lets players experience the game as it was in 2017. Whether you’re a veteran looking for a nostalgia trip or a newer player curious about the game’s early days, this mode promises a fresh yet familiar challenge.

Retro Royale Returns on March 12, 2025

The Retro Royale event will run from March 12 to March 26, 2025, allowing players to battle with only the 80 original cards that were available in the game back in 2017. That means no Champions, Evolutions, or modern mechanics—just classic Clash Royale gameplay in its purest form.

Matches will take place in the OG Arena, bringing back memories of the time before tower skins and arena reworks. While it may not be as visually dynamic as today’s game, the old-school charm is exactly what makes Retro Royale special.

Two Modes: Casual & Competitive

Retro Royale will feature two leagues to cater to different types of players:

• Casual Mode – Play freely without restrictions, just for fun.
• Competitive Mode – Unlocked after 30 wins, featuring a leaderboard where top players can showcase their skills.

Players will be able to earn Season Tokens, Gold, and Chests as rewards. However, there is no level cap, meaning higher-level cards will still have an advantage.

What to Expect in the Meta?

Since the 2017 card pool is making a comeback, expect to see classic decks dominating the meta, including:

• Giant Beatdown
• Pekka Bridge Spam
• Golem Beatdown
• Log Bait

While these decks were among the strongest in 2017, players may find creative ways to tweak them and rediscover forgotten strategies.

A Limited-Time Event—For Now

Currently, Retro Royale is only a temporary event, and Supercell has not confirmed whether it will become a permanent game mode.
