Fortnite May Introduce a Handcuff Cosmetic – Or Has It Been Scrapped?

A well-known Fortnite leaker has given fans a first look at an unreleased handcuff cosmetic, which may have been scrapped during development. Fortnite has a long history of introducing creative and unique cosmetics, especially through collaborations with other franchises. However, not every concept makes it into the final game, and some ideas are abandoned along the way.

Epic Games recently launched Chapter 6, Season 2, bringing a host of fresh content to the battle royale. This update has introduced new locations, weapons, and mechanics that shake up gameplay. Players can now use explosives to break into bank vaults, allowing them to claim powerful weapons and a new in-game currency, which can be spent on the black market. Alongside these mechanics, the update has also introduced a variety of new skins and cosmetics.

In a recent Twitter post, popular Fortnite dataminer ShiinaBR revealed six different concept designs for an unreleased handcuff cosmetic. While these cuffs could still appear in the game at some point, their absence suggests they might have been abandoned. The designs vary widely, ranging from simple gold restraints to high-tech and magical variations. Some fans quickly noted similarities to Fortnite’s rumored but unreleased weapon charms, which have likely been scrapped as well. It’s not uncommon for early cosmetic concepts to appear in game files, only to be removed later in development.

The Future of Fortnite’s Cosmetics: Handcuffs, Music Moments, and Kicks

Interestingly, some cosmetic types debut without ever being leaked, as was the case with Fortnite’s recently released Moments. Found in the music category of the locker, this new cosmetic type allows players to customize their Jam Tracks in a unique way. By assigning music tracks to intro or celebration slots, players can hear original or licensed songs when dropping from the Battle Bus or securing a Victory Royale. The feature has been well received, with many fans praising its addition.

However, not all cosmetics have been met with enthusiasm. The Kicks cosmetic line, which allows players to equip different types of footwear, has received mixed reactions. While some fans enjoy the customization, many feel that the Nike and Adidas collaborations are overpriced, with certain Kicks costing up to 1,000 V-Bucks—roughly $8.99 in real-world currency. For comparison, some full outfits in Fortnite cost only 800 V-Bucks, leading to debates over whether an accessory should be priced higher than an entire skin.

Despite occasional missteps in the cosmetic department, excitement remains high for Chapter 6, Season 2. Whether or not the handcuff cosmetic makes its way into Fortnite, players still have plenty to look forward to in the latest season of the battle royale.
