The latest trailer for Mario vs. Donkey Kong confirms the introduction of new levels and modes
Based on the 2004 original for Game Boy Advance, Mario vs. Donkey Kong is a 2D platformer with puzzle elements, set to be released on Nintendo Switch on February 16.
The trailer released on Thursday confirms that the Switch game will feature over 130 levels and a Two-Player Mode.
New to this version of the game are Merry Mini-Land and Slippery Summit – two worlds which Nintendo says feature "new enemies and level themes with distinct play mechanics".
Players will be able to unlock Plus Levels and Expert Levels as they play the game, as well as use the Time Attack feature. A new Casual difficulty level has also been added, toning down the challenge for rookie players.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong was the spiritual successor to the 1994 Game Boy version of Donkey Kong, in which Mario could perform new moves.
The game would eventually spawn a further six Mario vs Donkey Kong titles, but the rest were mainly puzzle titles, some of which played similarly to Lemmings.
The last game in the series, Mini Mario & Friends: Amiibo Challenge, was a Wii U and 3DS eShop exclusive, meaning it’s no longer available.
