First and foremost, the Nanyang Championship has been a rollercoaster ride for everyone. Most teams that are invited had a lot of Visa issues that hindered 2 teams from joining the tournament, namely, Fnatic and Team Secret, to which both are directly invited. Nevertheless, the show still went on as it's the second season of South East Asia's, specifically, Singapore's, biggest Offline tournament set in China.

The Nanyang Championship is a yearly tournament that started just last year, with Team Secret and Vici Gaming then running the show of the Grand Finals. This year, it was an all-Chinese Semis, winner and loser bracket. Let's have a quick rundown from Quarterfinals to Finals, shall we?

Quarterfinals/LB Round 1: DC, Team Empire, WG.Unity, VGR drops

The direct invites had a hard time with their Chinese competitiors in the Quarterfinals. CDEC.Youth had knocked out DC cleanly in a 2-0 fashion. Same goes for Team Empire as they lost to Wings Gaming, leading Digital Chaos and Team Empire to battle it out to stay in the tournament, Digital Chaos defeats Empire 2-1 to live for another day in the tournament Loser's Bracket.

Meanwhile, LGD Gaming knocked out SEA's qualified team, WG.Unity 2-0. LGD has been fired up since the start of the tournament, and so, this much was to be expected. Newbee then defeated Vici Gaming Reborn closely to stay for the Semis in the upper bracket. This led to WG.Unity and Vici Gaming Reborn to battle out in the Loser's Bracket. WG.Unity was quickly knocked out by VCR to advance to the next stage.

Semifinals: Shanghai Spirit

May it be in the Upper or Lower Bracket, it shaped up to be just like a glorified Dota Pro League tournament as only Digital Chaos advanced to even just the Lower Bracket. There, they were no match for LGD Gaming, as they dropped out of the tournament 2-0.

CDEC.Youth and LGD Gaming then lost cleanly to Wings and Newbee, leading them to battle it off in the Lower Bracket. There, LGD met with DC and CDEC.Youth met with Vici Gaming Reborn. The Losers from the Semis, LGD and CDEC.Youth had gone off to the next round of the Lower Bracket, leading them to fight each other. In Round 3 of the Loser's Bracket, LGD Gaming won against CDEC.Youth to fight the loser of the Winner's Finals.

Winner's Finals and Loser's Finals: Prelude to What's Next

Having beaten the likes of LGD Gaming and CDEC.Youth, Wings and Newbee are the last teams standing tall in the Winner's Bracket. In a hotly contested match, Wings won over Newbee by a hair via their complete command of their heroes and well thought out plays and engages. Newbee the related to the Loser's Finals, where they avenged themselves by beating LGD Gaming with a burning passion, in order for them to have another shot at Wings.

Grand Finals: Wings vs Newbee

Everybody knew that something big was going to go down with this battle as the vindicated Newbee earned another chance at redemption against Wings, the team that beat them so closely in the Winner's Finals. With wound still fresh, Newbee took Game 1 for themselves. However, Wings had responded back by defeating Newbee in Game 2 and 3. When all is almost lost, Newbee had stomped Wings in Game 4, and finally, in an amazing display of skill and perserverance,  Newbee clinched Game 5 from Wings Gaming to be crowned the Nanyang Championship Season 2 Champions.

Nanyang Championship is the last premier tournament before The International 2016 this year. Different teams from America, Europe, China and SEA have all gone through their respective qualifiers in order to be one of the slots. However, there's still one team directly invited from each server. The total prize pool of the tournament is $200,000 + 25% of the ticket sales. Newbee has definitely earned the title - and they did so in such an incredible fashion. With that honor they shall recieve $100,610 as their prize money.
