Overpass Returns to CS2 as Valve Shakes Up Competitive Map Pool

In a signature surprise move, Valve has announced a major change to the competitive map pool in Counter-Strike 2. The fan-favorite Overpass is making a comeback—at the expense of one of the game’s newer additions.

This update lands during a lull in the professional CS2 calendar, injecting fresh strategic challenges for teams preparing for upcoming tournaments.

Anubis Out, Overpass In

The update, which also kicks off Premier Season Three, brings a host of gameplay tweaks: a rebalanced Counter-Terrorist economy, increased recoil for the MP9, and enhanced incendiary grenades. But the headline change is clear—Overpass is back in the competitive mix, replacing Anubis.

This marks the first adjustment to the active duty map pool in 2025. The last shift occurred earlier this year when the remastered Train returned, pushing out the polarizing Vertigo.

A Familiar Battlefield Returns

Overpass was a cornerstone of the CS:GO competitive scene, featured in countless tournaments and beloved for its unique layout and strategic depth. Its reintroduction will be welcome news for veteran players and fans alike.

On the other hand, Anubis is heading to the sidelines for the first time since its inclusion in November 2022. Despite being relatively new, it had carved out a solid spot in the lineup—until now.

This shake-up signals Valve’s continued intent to keep the CS2 competitive scene dynamic and unpredictable—just the way fans like it.
