CS2 Map Designer FMPONE Releases Cache Remake Without s1mple’s Iconic Graffiti

Renowned Counter-Strike map designer Shawn "FMPONE" Snelling has released a workshop version of Cache for Counter-Strike 2. However, fans quickly noticed that the legendary graffiti honoring Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev was missing from the remake. Instead, the B-site wall now features only a blank painted surface where the tribute once stood.

Why Was s1mple’s Graffiti Removed?

The reason for the missing graffiti remains unclear. Some speculate that it’s due to Valve’s decision not to carry over legacy graffiti from CS:GO to CS2. Interestingly, FMPONE did include the tribute in the second version of Cache, making its absence in the CS2 remake even more noticeable.

The original graffiti was created to commemorate s1mple’s unforgettable highlight during the ESL One Cologne 2016 semifinals against Fnatic, one of the world’s top teams at the time. In that iconic moment, s1mple, playing as an AWPer, made an insane double-kill noscope—first jumping off heaven to take out an opponent below, then quickly eliminating another from a distance. The moment became legendary, amplified by caster James Bardolph’s famous call:

“You can't do that, s1mple! That’s not allowed!”

Cache Returns to CS2 – Will It Join the Competitive Map Pool?

FMPONE officially launched the full version of Cache on March 3, marking the third iteration of the map. The second version was introduced after Valve removed Cache from the professional map pool in CS:GO.

Players can now download and explore the new Cache in the CS2 workshop, with community servers already hosting matches on the revamped battleground. Many fans are hopeful that the map will eventually return to the official competitive pool, reviving one of Counter-Strike’s most iconic battlegrounds.
