Flamengo Unites Former Teammates from Over a Decade Ago in New Roster
Flamengo, the Brazilian esports division of the prominent professional sports club, has unveiled its latest roster, headlined by Lucas "steel" Lopes and Caio "zqkS" Fonseca. Joining this duo are Matias "HUASOPEEK" Ibañez Hernandez, a former prospect of ex-9z Academy, and Vinicius "vinaabEAST" Santos. Matheus "KAOS" Nicolau assumes the role of head coach.
Having entered the competitive scene in 2022, Flamengo's Brazilian esports division achieved a notable milestone by qualifying for the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 Americas RMR. Despite narrowly missing a spot at the Major, the team decided to restructure its lineup, retaining only zqkS and coach KAOS.
steel and zqkS, who returns for a second term with the organization, stand as the most prominent members of the revamped team. Their journey in the competitive scene began as early as 2012 with ProGaming.TD, and they advanced to Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's KaBuM.TD roster in 2015. The duo subsequently collaborated under the Keyd banner at ESL One Katowice 2015. steel further participated in two more Majors with the team as it transitioned to Luminosity. Following periods of activity in various Brazilian teams, their paths have converged once again after a hiatus of six years.
HUASOPEEK, the lone non-Brazilian member hailing from Chile, joins the team on loan from 9z Academy. Over the past year, the 20-year-old showcased his talents in several domestic tournaments, including the recent 1XPLORE Latin America Cup 1, maintaining an average rating of 1.06.
vinaabEAST, the youngest member at 19, carries a lack of experience due to his age. His career spans just 43 maps, all under the Los Grandes organization, predominantly for their academy roster.
Flamengo's current lineup consists of:
- Lucas "steel" Lopes (Brazil)
- Caio "zqkS" Fonseca (Brazil)
- Vinicius "vinaabEAST" Santos (Brazil)
- Matias "HUASOPEEK" Ibañez Hernandez (Chile, on loan)
Matheus "KAOS" Nicolau remains the coach for the team.
