Mind-Blowing Headtr1ck Secures Epic Victory for NIP against EG
Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP) emerged victorious over Evil Geniuses (EG) in the lower bracket of Group A, sending the North American team to the Knockout Stage and earning themselves a chance for redemption against Complexity. The series ended in a 2-0 score, although the maps were much closer than anticipated.
In particular, the Inferno map saw EG come close to winning multiple times, but they faltered, squandering four map points and losing advantageous situations, eventually conceding the map in double overtime. Hampus "hampus" Poser took responsibility for NiP's performance on the CT side of Inferno, admitting that he played poorly and struggled to respond effectively to EG's strategies.
The victory for NiP can be largely attributed to the outstanding performance of Daniil "headtr1ck" Valitov, the Ukrainian AWPer. Valitov executed crucial clutches in both maps, including a remarkable 1v3 clutch on Inferno and a remarkable 1v4 clutch on Vertigo. Without his exceptional plays, the series could have easily gone in favor of EG. As NiP prepares for their rematch against Complexity, they will heavily rely on Valitov's exceptional level of play. In their initial encounter, Valitov achieved a rating of 0.95 across three maps, narrowly losing to Complexity.
On the Inferno map, NiP established an early lead on the CT side, thanks to dominant performances in the banana area by headtr1ck and Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin. However, EG managed to recover and turned the tide by winning seven of the next eight rounds. Although EG secured a 12-8 lead, NiP's persistent damage and economic control allowed them to stage a comeback, narrowing the gap to 12-10.
A series of strong rounds from Timothy "autimatic" Ta propelled EG to a 12-8 advantage, but NiP managed to break EG's economy and regain momentum, bringing the score to 12-10. However, an unexpected eco win by EG disrupted NiP's rhythm, and EG capitalized on it to approach match point. Despite EG's opportunities to secure victory, they squandered a 5v2 situation, allowing NiP to close the gap to 14-13. The intense round 28 saw EG reach match point, but headtr1ck's heroics denied their victory, pushing the match to overtime. In the end, NiP triumphed with a score of 22-20, after an intense second set of extra rounds.
Moving on to the Vertigo map, EG had a strong start, winning the first five rounds on the CT side. Although it seemed that NiP's first-round victory wouldn't be enough, headtr1ck delivered another crucial 1v4 clutch, completely shifting the momentum in NiP's favor. From there, NiP dominated the rest of the T side, winning all remaining rounds and securing a 9-6 lead at halftime.
NiP's victory in the pistol round of the second half put them in a position to close out the game early. However, EG's force-buy allowed them to regain control momentarily, winning the following four rounds and taking a brief lead. Nevertheless, NiP's defense proved impenetrable, as hampus and his team rallied to a 16-11 victory, sealing their win over EG.
Next, NiP prepares for a rematch against Complexity, eager to avenge their previous loss and secure a spot in the next stage of the tournament.
