ESL is revising its rules to correct the perceived shortcomings with the registration of participants in third-party tournaments

Tournament operator ESL has announced changes to its rules in order to correct the observed shortcomings with the registration of participants in third-party tournaments. Recall that the day before, community representatives reproached the organizers for a rule clause that directly prohibits players declared as substitutes for ESL Pro League Season 17 from playing in open qualifiers for RMR tournaments for BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 for third-party teams. Now the organizers have corrected the shortcomings in order to open such an opportunity in anticipation of the imminent start of the RMR cycle.

The ESL considers contracts or agreements between players and teams that come into effect two days before their first match in the tournament (notwithstanding any actual contracts).

Thus, the teams got more opportunities to register participants between two tournaments at once. This means that players will be able to represent two different teams in multiple championships as long as their last and first matches are played at least two days apart.

Previously, the rules set a date of February 8 as the last day to register rosters for participation in ESL Pro League Season 17. However, now that ESL has relaxed the requirements, teams and players can safely play in both tournaments without fear of repercussions from the tournament operator.

ESL Pro League Season 17 will take place from February 22 to March 26 in Malta. As part of the championship, 32 teams from the CIS, Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia and Oceania will compete for a total prize pool of $850,000, as well as a slot for the winner at IEM Cologne 2023.

In turn, open qualifiers for RMR tournaments for BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 will start on February 13 and end on the 27th of the same month.
