Introduced changes in the slot distribution system for RMR tournaments
Valve has unveiled changes to the slot distribution system for RMR tournaments that will anticipate BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023. While there are not many details, the developer and organizers will bring more clarity to the upcoming innovations in the future.
Starting with BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023, we are going to change the way teams are invited to RMR tournaments. Previously, teams entered RMR tournaments by direct invitation or through a series of open qualifiers. As for BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023, some teams that are not directly invited will be able to skip the open qualifiers - teams that consistently perform well in Valve tournaments and third-party events will be directly invited to the closed qualifier. There they will compete with teams that have passed the open qualification. In the coming weeks, we will reveal more details about the new format of the RMR system.
Thus, now some of the strongest teams on the planet, who for some reason failed at the last major or missed it completely, can bypass open qualifiers and get an invitation to the closed stage of qualifiers for the RMR tournament.
Probably, these changes will directly affect Astralis and G2 Esports, which missed IEM Rio Major 2022 and had to participate in open qualifiers. Apparently, the organizers will introduce a double qualifier system, where the best teams will be one step closer to entering the RMR tournament.
