Daniel Voorborg: "We needed to at least triple the guys' salary to keep the squad"
Daniel Vorborg, former co-owner and coach of Copenhagen Flames, commented on the latest changes in the Danish squad. In addition, the 29-year-old specialist emphasized that the organization had a chance to keep the roster, but in order to do this, it was necessary to increase the salaries of the players several times.
To keep the squad, we had to at least triple the salary of the guys. This requires a lot of money. At fnatic, nicoodoz and roej's salary has increased five times. In addition, their new organization has a slot in the ESL Pro League, which is very important. Last year, all the players in our roster wanted to move to Complexity, largely due to the fact that this club has a permanent place in the franchise leagues of both ESL and BLAST.
The latest iteration of the Copenhagen Flames lineup was formed last May. During the season, the Danish team achieved great success, winning BLAST Rising 2021, Malta Vibes Knockout Series #4 and PGL Major Antwerp 2022: European RMR B. However, the team’s greatest achievements relate to larger championships, as the roster took 9-11th place in the PGL Major Stockholm 2021, and also reached the quarterfinals of the recent PGL Major Antwerp 2022.
During the interview, Vorborg noted that the team knew about the breakup of the roster even before the start of PGL Major Antwerp 2022. The 29-year-old specialist added that the previously announced return of the club to the professional scene will not take place until the second half of 2022.
Vorborg himself left the organization shortly after news of the sale of the roster. At the same time, the Danish club assured that it had no plans to leave the stage and would return to the game with a new line-up.
