Story Details and Early Access Revealed for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
One of the most promising projects this fall is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, the latest installment in the renowned shooter game series being developed by Infinity Ward. Officially announced at the end of last month, the game promises to bring Call of Duty back to the roots of the franchise, delivering a grounded and gritty storyline focused on realism.
Recently, the developers confirmed earlier rumors that players who pre-order Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will get early access to the campaign, available a week before the official release on October 23rd. In addition, the first details of the storyline were revealed: Modern Warfare 4 will allow players to experience the story through the perspectives of two different characters—the new hero, Private Park, and the legendary Captain Price.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Campaign Synopsis
In the Modern Warfare 4 Campaign, you fight as Private Park, a young South Korean soldier facing live combat for the first time alongside his squad. What begins as a routine mission descends into chaos when North Korea launches a full-scale invasion, forcing Park and his unit into a desperate battle through collapsing cities and counteroffensives.
Beyond the front lines, operator-turned-outlaw Captain Price is operating outside the system he once served. A hunt for revenge draws Price toward a weapon powerful enough to shift the balance of power, setting in motion a conflict far greater than he ever anticipated. Forced into uneasy alliances and off-book operations, Price is pulled deeper into consequences he can no longer escape.
From large-scale battles and covert missions to combined-arms warfare and cinematic set pieces, the campaign delivers grounded combat and gameplay variety across a war that spreads far beyond the front lines.
During the recent Xbox Games Showcase, Infinity Ward revealed gameplay footage of the DMZ mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 —a mode the developers are heavily investing in and seemingly aiming to turn into a "game within a game." Additionally, a Call of Duty movie is in the works, directed by Peter Berg (known for Hancock, Battleship, and Mile 22), with its premiere scheduled for June 30, 2028.
