Rumors of a Potential Halo x Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Collaboration

A recent online leak suggests that a collaboration between Halo and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 almost became a reality. This potential crossover would have introduced a variety of Halo-themed content into Call of Duty, but unfortunately, the idea never came to fruition.

Halo and Call of Duty are two iconic franchises in the FPS genre. While Call of Duty currently holds a stronger position in terms of popularity, Halo remains a household name for gamers. Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2023, both franchises are now under the same corporate roof, theoretically making collaborations between the two more feasible.

The Rumored Collaboration: Maps and Microsoft’s Intervention

According to Call of Duty insider TheGhostOfHope, who shared details on platform X, Sledgehammer Games had initially planned an ambitious Halo-themed event for Modern Warfare 3. This crossover would have included maps inspired by the Halo franchise. Although no specific maps were officially named, the teaser image shared by the leaker featured The Pit from Halo 3, a fan-favorite map that could have been adapted perfectly as a smaller-scale battleground in Call of Duty.

However, TheGhostOfHope later claimed that the collaboration was allegedly vetoed by Microsoft, similar to its previous rejection of a proposed Halo x Doom crossover episode by Secret Level.

Microsoft Allegedly Blocked the Collaboration

While the idea of a Halo collaboration may seem unusual for Call of Duty, it wouldn't be entirely out of character for the franchise. Over the years, Call of Duty has shifted from its roots as a realistic military shooter to embracing frequent collaborations and cosmetic crossovers with other popular franchises.

For example, Call of Duty has previously introduced some unexpected crossovers, such as adding Art the Clown from the Terrifier series as an Operator. While the proposed Halo collaboration was reportedly shut down, it’s not entirely impossible that Microsoft might revisit the concept in the future.

What’s Next for Call of Duty?

Although Activision has now moved on from Modern Warfare 3, the excitement continues with the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The latest installment in the series has been receiving regular updates, featuring even more crossovers and collaborations. One of the most notable additions was a crossover with Squid Game, which included its own Premium Battle Pass.

As of now, Treyarch has already unveiled the Season 2 Patch Notes for Black Ops 6, detailing the new content and gameplay changes that players can look forward to in the ongoing season. While the Halo x Call of Duty crossover didn’t happen this time, fans of both franchises can still hope for surprises in the future.
