Challengers Series Format Details Revealed in Europe

Riot Games has revealed the details of the format of the Challengers series championships in Europe. In particular, the organizers explained their vision for the development of the series, and also announced the dates when the tournaments will be held.

First, we want to tell the stories of each region, covering their talent, their unique playstyles, and their approach to the game. We understand that players have a particular passion for supporting teams and players from their own country and culture, and Challengers is one way we hope to make that happen.

Secondly, and this is closely related to the above, we hope to shed light on more regions that make up Europe, and since Italy and Portugal will get separate leagues in 2023, we have increased the number of leagues in the region to 9. More leagues gives teams more opportunities to express your individuality and attract players from all over the region to participate!

Finally, we want to provide the best possible platform for regional talent to be recognized internationally. The Ascension Tournament, which will take place in July and offer the best Challengers team a step towards the VCT, is just one example of how we hope to achieve this. The Challengers Leagues will also serve as a platform for players to show their worth by providing VCT teams with new names and a larger pool of talent to keep an eye on.

Start dates for the Challengers series championships in Europe:

  • Spain - January 8
  • Eastern Europe - January 12
  • Germany - January 14
  • France - January 14
  • Portugal – January 14
  • Turkey - January 14
  • Northern Europe – January 16
  • Italy - January 21
  • Middle East - January 28

Stage 1 Playoffs will take place across all leagues from late February to early March, all ending by Sunday, March 12th. Stage 2 will begin after the first week of the VCT split and all leagues will run from Saturday to Tuesday starting April 1st. The playoffs will run from late May to early June, and they will all be completed by Sunday, June 11th.

Next, the best teams from each regional league will take part in the Ascension tournament starting in July, with the winner being recognized as the best Challengers team of 2023, and also entering the international arena - the winner will receive a place in the VCT EMEA League for two years.
