New Witcher Novel "Crossroads of Ravens" to Explore Geralt’s Youth
Andrzej Sapkowski, the original author of The Witcher series, is set to release a new novel later this year. Crossroads of Ravens (Rozdroże Kruków in Polish) will serve as a prequel, exploring a young Geralt of Rivia as he takes on his first mission after leaving Kaer Morhen.
I wonder if the young Witcher had a habit of chewing on roots that helped seasoned Witchers get through long winters in the castle… I doubt it, as that would have overshadowed his obvious talent. Though his introduction to miracle herbs surely happened early, he just knows his limits.
According to Sapkowski, the book will showcase "not the fearless monster slayer we know, but a young Witcher just beginning to understand the burden of his destiny." Fans can expect encounters with monsters, traitors, new friends, and familiar faces, all while Geralt discovers just how feared and despised Witchers truly are.
Crossroads of Ravens Release Date and Translations
The novel is set for release on September 30 in English, with a translation by David French, who has worked on six of the last eight Witcher books. It will also be translated into over 19 other languages, ensuring global accessibility for fans of the series.
How It Connects to the Witcher Universe
Unlike CD Projekt Red’s upcoming The Witcher 4, which continues the games’ storyline with Ciri as the protagonist, Crossroads of Ravens dives into Geralt’s past. This isn’t the first time a younger version of the character has appeared—Netflix’s anime Nightmare of the Wolf also depicted a youthful Geralt.
Meanwhile, The Witcher 4 is set to compete with The Blood of Dawnwalker, a new game from The Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz's studio, Rebel Wolves. The game, backed by NetEase, recently received its first trailer and remains unaffected by the Chinese company’s recent funding shifts.
While The Witcher 4 won’t focus on Geralt, developers have hinted he will make an appearance, though whether he’ll be a playable character remains a mystery.
