Unity was forced to close two of its offices due to death threats received

According to a subsequent report by Polygon, the San Francisco police received information that an employee had made threats against their employer using social media.

It's worth noting that Unity faced criticism from developers after announcing plans to charge a fee for each installation of a game using their Unity engine.

Starting in January 2024, a new fee for using Unity Runtime will be applied to games that reach a minimum revenue threshold and have a minimum number of installations over their lifetime.

This announcement stirred dissatisfaction among some members of the development community who considered the new fee structure ill-conceived, unfavorable for game creators, and susceptible to abuse.

Developers raised questions about why Unity decided to introduce fees that could penalize them for participating in major sales events or for including their game in a charitable bundle or subscription service like Xbox Game Pass.

Later on, Unity attempted to clarify the terms of their plans and address some of the expressed concerns but did not indicate that they were planning to completely abandon the proposed changes.
