Announced a new wireless Xbox controller made from recycled waste
In anticipation of Earth Day, Microsoft has announced the release of a new wireless Xbox controller "made in part" from recycled CDs, water canisters, and other Xbox controller parts.
In a new blog post, the company details the Xbox Wireless Controller - Remix Special Edition, which contains "reclaimed plastic, with one third of the material made from post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials." Microsoft also explains how the controller was made using recycled materials, stating that the raw materials were a mixture of consumer plastics and recycled Xbox One controller parts.
The company notes that the controller's design was inspired by natural landscapes and "the physical world around us," with earthy colors creating a "vibrant yet calm atmosphere."
Additionally, in addition to partial use of recycled materials, Microsoft confirms that the Remix Special Edition controller includes an Xbox Rechargeable Battery Pack.
The release of the Xbox Wireless Controller - Remix Special Edition is part of Xbox's sustainability efforts. Microsoft's gaming division aims to reduce its environmental footprint, while its parent company has committed to becoming carbon-negative by 2030. Examples of Xbox's efforts include releasing an update that helps its console reduce carbon emissions and joining the Playing for the Planet Alliance in 2019.
The Xbox Wireless Controller - Remix Special Edition will be available for purchase on April 18 for $84.99. It can be pre-ordered on Amazon and in the official Microsoft store.
