Overwatch 2 Players Frustrated with Maximilien’s Vault Algorithm

Overwatch 2’s Maximilien’s Vault continues to frustrate the community, as many players report receiving discounts for heroes they rarely or never play.

Inspired by systems like League of Legends’ ‘Your Shop’ and Valorant’s ‘Night Market,’ Maximilien’s Vault is designed to offer discounts on skins for a player’s most-played heroes. However, in practice, many players are finding that the selections don’t align with their actual preferences.

Maximilien’s Vault Fails to Address Previous Issues

This is now the second iteration of the Vault, and despite player feedback from the first run, it appears that the system remains unchanged. Many users have taken to social media to share their disappointment, reporting that their discounted skins don’t match their top-played heroes.

One frustrated player stated, “I actually don’t think I’ve been given a single skin from the vault for my top five most played heroes.” Another user echoed the sentiment, saying, “Mine was literally nothing but Reinhardt skins. I’ve played Rein TWICE in 500+ hours.”

Is Maximilien’s Vault Randomized?

Some players speculate that the issue may stem from Battle.net’s ‘In-Game Recommendations’ setting, which Blizzard claims affects Vault selections. However, even players who have opted in are experiencing randomized discounts.

“I’m almost certain this isn’t true. If Blizzard is claiming it to be, they’re also lying,” one player remarked. “I’m definitely opting in, and not a single skin is for one of my mains on both Vault releases.”

Others suspect the Vault might be influenced by recent hero usage, prioritizing heroes played in the current season. However, this theory doesn’t hold up for everyone—one player noted receiving five DPS skins despite not playing the role for two consecutive seasons.

Blizzard’s Algorithm Remains a Mystery

At this point, no one fully understands how Maximilien’s Vault determines hero selections. Some players receive skins for their actual mains, while others are left with seemingly random picks.

With widespread frustration over the system, Blizzard may need to adjust the algorithm to ensure discounts are more accurately tailored to individual player preferences.
