Blizzard Teases Livestream Set for February 12 with ‘Groundbreaking’ Overwatch 2 Changes
Blizzard is promising “groundbreaking changes” for Overwatch 2 later this year, teasing updates that are “unlike anything you’ve seen before.” While details remain scarce, the developer will reveal more during the Overwatch 2 Spotlight livestream on February 12. The event will also introduce new heroes and maps coming in 2025.
As part of the showcase, select Overwatch 2 content creators will get hands-on experience with the updates. Players who tune in to partnered Twitch streams can earn the Lucio Cyber DJ Legendary skin as a Twitch Drop.
Speculation is already swirling about what these major changes might entail. Blizzard recently tested a return to Overwatch’s original 6v6 format with a limited-time Overwatch Classic playlist, fueling theories that the upcoming update could bring back team sizes from the first game.
The announcement comes amid increased competition from Marvel Rivals, an Overwatch-style hero shooter that launched in December 2024 and quickly became a massive hit. The game reached 20 million players in under two weeks and remains a top-played and top-earning title on Steam.
Developer NetEase has committed to introducing at least two new playable characters every season, with its first season already adding four heroes from the Fantastic Four. Overwatch 2, by comparison, introduced only three new heroes in 2024. With Marvel Rivals keeping up a rapid content pace, Blizzard’s upcoming changes could be an effort to reinvigorate Overwatch 2 in the competitive hero shooter space.
For more details, fans will have to wait for the Overwatch 2 Spotlight on February 12.
