Destiny 2 Player Recreates Overwatch 2's Cassidy with Impressive Custom Costume
A clever Destiny 2 player added a touch of Overwatch 2’s cowboy flair to The Last City by creating a custom costume inspired by Cassidy. This character was brought to life in Destiny 2 through a careful selection of Hunter Guardian armor pieces, especially a unique class item.
Cassidy, a member of Overwatch's playable roster since the original game launched in 2016, is one of the franchise's most iconic characters. Despite several reworks and a complete name change from his original identity, Cassidy remains recognized for his cowboy-themed combat style, particularly his deadly Deadeye ultimate ability.
Destiny 2 player Julicious successfully recreated Cassidy’s look with a Hunter outfit titled "12pm." Destiny 2 players immediately caught the reference to Cassidy’s ultimate catchphrase, "it's high noon," before he unleashes his Deadeye.
The customized Destiny 2 Cassidy costume utilized various cowboy-inspired Hunter armor pieces to mimic the character's default appearance. Central to the ensemble is the distinctive TM-Earp Custom Cloaked Stetson class item from the Spire of the Watcher dungeon in Destiny 2. Unlike typical Hunter cloaks that include a hood, the TM-Earp consists of a high-collared cape and a Tex Mechanica-branded shoulder pack, complemented by a broad-brimmed leather cowboy hat. The hat and cape gain an orange-red hue from the Ablaze color shader.
Cassidy’s brass-plated chest armor, armored left arm, and red poncho draped over his left shoulder are emulated by combining the Braytech Combat Vest chest piece and First Ascent Grips arm pieces, both tinted with the Pomegranate Gloss shader. This shader gives the Hunter’s torso a shiny yellow tint while turning the cloth portions bright red. The chest piece and shoulder pad merge into a silhouette that resembles a single cloth covering. The Guardian’s face was completely covered by the Competitive Spirit mask from the 2019 Guardian games event and colored in Gambit Suede. Covering the face was necessary since Destiny 2 player Guardians do not have beards, making Cassidy’s facial hair impossible to replicate accurately.
Fellow players praised Julicious’s costume for its accuracy and clever cowboy-themed design choices, including the use of Destiny 2’s The Last Word Exotic hand cannon, which allows players to fire rounds like Cassidy using his Deadeye. The costume also features the Lucky Pants exotic leg pieces with the Deep Pockets ornament, colored with the Canis Coat shader. Lucky Pants are particularly fitting as they significantly boost hand cannon performance, adding to the cowboy theme.
