Overwatch 2 Shakes Up the Game: Free Heroes in Season 10 & More Exciting Updates!
Starting with Season 10, Overwatch 2 is making a significant shift in its approach to new heroes, no longer gating them behind battle passes. This change addresses one of the key criticisms since the game's transition to a free-to-play model. Previously, unlocking new heroes required navigating deep into the battle pass, with the option for immediate access available only through purchase. This practice raised concerns about fairness and game balance in the competitive hero shooter environment.
With the arrival of Season 10 in April, all heroes, including the newly introduced Damage hero, Venture, will be freely accessible to all players. Venture, who boasts the novel ability to burrow underground, will be fully unveiled at a later date. However, newcomers to Overwatch 2 will need to complete specific challenges to unlock various heroes, maintaining a level of engagement and progression for new players.
Blizzard's Developer Update for Overwatch 2 Season 10 also outlines additional player-centric updates. These include the introduction of the Mythic Shop, offering a way for players to acquire Mythic Hero skins from past seasons, addressing the issue of "Fear Of Missing Out" (FOMO) among the community. Furthermore, battle passes will now feature a revised coin earning system, allowing players to accumulate up to 600 coins per season through both free and premium tracks, alongside the opportunity to gain battle pass XP through weekly challenges.
These updates, aimed at enhancing player satisfaction and reinvigorating interest in Overwatch 2, follow positive community feedback from Season 9's changes. As the game heads into Season 10, it appears to be on an upward trajectory, with fans eagerly anticipating the new season's launch next month.
