Overwatch 2 Unveils Game-Changing Damage Hero 'Venture' at BlizzCon 2023
BlizzCon 2023 has unveiled exciting prospects for Overwatch 2 enthusiasts, offering an early glimpse of the forthcoming Damage character, Venture. Although it will be a few months before players can fully experience Venture, this addition appears poised to bring a game-changing dynamic to Overwatch 2.
The Overwatch 2 Deep Dive at BlizzCon 2023 provided fans with a wealth of insights into the future of this hero shooter. It touched upon Battle Pass themes such as Egyptian Mythology and a mirror universe, highlighted the return of Hanamura via the upcoming Clash game mode, and presented Mauga's origin story and gameplay trailer, along with a limited-time trial period for the hero. However, Blizzard's revelations didn't end there; they also tantalized fans with a glimpse of the next two heroes. While Season 12's Support hero is still in the early stages of development and bears the codename "Space Ranger," Venture is further along in its development.
Venture is slated for release in Season 10 and will mark the first Damage hero introduction since Sojourn. This character is confirmed to be the first non-binary hero in the game, sporting a substantial trench coat with noticeable neck tattoos. Venture's primary weapon is a drill, which they use to launch disc-like projectiles at their adversaries. Although the character model may lack some polish, Blizzard wanted to provide fans with a preview of how Venture will play once Season 10 commences.
The brief gameplay snippet from BlizzCon 2023 showcases Venture wielding the drill weapon, with the projectiles detonating after a certain distance. However, the weapon's other capabilities truly set it apart. It features a melee attack that propels Venture forward and grants them the ability to burrow beneath the map, rendering them invulnerable for a brief period. This allows them to flank enemies or make a hasty retreat to their spawn area, potentially facilitating regrouping. Additionally, this ability empowers Venture to deal extra damage while propelling themselves into the air, affording them enhanced mobility.
BlizzCon 2023 also offered concept art of Overwatch 2's upcoming Damage hero, allowing players to gain a closer look at Venture's design. The character dons yellow goggles atop their head, and a yellow shirt is visible beneath their baggy coat, suggesting that yellow will be closely associated with the hero. While the facial expressions in the artwork may hint at Venture's personality, this remains speculative.
As for Venture's release in Overwatch 2, Season 10 is anticipated to arrive around May 2024. With any luck, players may have the opportunity to test this character earlier, following a pattern similar to Mauga's trial period.
