Overwatch 2 Season 7 Unveils Exhilarating Surprises: New Map SAMOA, Halloween Skins, and Diablo 4 Crossover Tease!
A brand-new Control map named SAMOA has been officially confirmed for Overwatch 2's upcoming Season 7. The Overwatch 2 community had been abuzz with anticipation due to a prior leak surrounding the forthcoming season, which had hinted at the introduction of a new Control map. Although the leaked map's name didn't match, it has sparked speculations about other potential revelations.
Season 6 of Overwatch 2 marked a significant milestone for the game, introducing PvE story missions that allowed players to collaborate in combating Null Sector. Additionally, players were treated to the inclusion of the Support hero Illari, as well as an innovative hero mastery and progression system, enriching the gameplay experience. Another noteworthy addition was the introduction of a core PvP game mode called Flashpoint, along with two new maps. As Season 7, scheduled for release in October, approaches, another map is poised to join the rotation.
The official Overwatch Twitter page recently announced the arrival of SAMOA, a new Control map, set to make its debut on October 1 during the Overwatch League Grand Finals. This announcement grants the Overwatch 2 community an early opportunity to explore the battleground and gain insights into its layout. The last Control map addition to the hero shooter was Antarctic Peninsula in February 2023.
SAMOA depicts a tropical setting, adorned with numerous palm trees and surrounded by a vast body of water. The map exudes a distinct Samoan ambiance, fueling speculation among fans that it might be the home of the rumored Overwatch 2 Tank hero, Mauga. Although Blizzard has yet to make an official announcement, fans eagerly anticipate his potential inclusion in the roster next season. For now, the Overwatch 2 community must patiently await October 1 for more details about SAMOA.
While Overwatch 2 Season 7 had initially been the subject of a leak, Blizzard's recent revelations have lent it greater credibility. The leak also hinted at the arrival of new Halloween-themed skins for Widowmaker, Hanzo, and Echo, aligning with the season's expected release around Halloween. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the leak is the suggestion of a future crossover with Diablo 4, as it prominently featured Lilith in the imagery.
It seems that Blizzard intends to gradually unveil Season 7, offering insights into new Overwatch 2 skins, maps, hero reworks, and more as the community approaches the season's launch date. As the release of Season 7 draws nearer, players can look forward to further content reveals from Blizzard.
