Ranking System Changes

In the new competitive season, Riot Games has prepared several key changes for the players. The first one is the number of splits.

Now the game year in LoL will be divided into two segments. However, it is not worth waiting for the off-season in the pauses between them, as it happens in the period before the start of the new playing year.

The second and most important change in the rating system is the reset of LP and rank after the first split. This is due to the fact that to motivate players who want to fight for places in the ladder table to regularly play rating matchmaking.

Split rewards and starting questline

With the start of the 2023 season and the reworking of the rating system, Riot will change the way they receive rewards. Now there will be more of them for each of the splits:

Rewards for the first split of 2023 in LoL

  • Hextech Chest - 10 Season Points
  • Hextech Key - 40 Season Points
  • Random Ward Shard - 80 Season Points
  • Hextech Key - 120 Season Points
  • Ranked Emote - Split 1 - 160 Season Points
  • Hextech Key - 200 Season Points
  • Permanent champion K`sante - 240 season points
  • Hextech Chest - 280 Season Points
  • Ranked Profile Icon - 320 Season Points
  • Hextech Chest - 480 Season Points
  • 500 Orange Essence - 600 Season Points
  • Eternal Capsule Episode 1 - 720 Season Points
  • Masterpiece Chest - 800 Season Points

You can earn season points just by playing ranked games. For a victory, 10 units will be awarded, and a defeat will bring from 4 to 6.

In addition, all Ranked players will receive a Seasonal Skin. This was the case before, however, to get it, you had to raise the “Gold”, and now it will be available to players of all ranks, with a difference in the required number of matches played for each rank (the higher the rank, the fewer games you need to get the image).

In addition to rewards for playing in the ranked system, a welcome line of quests will be available to all players. To complete them, you need to play with or against the "mysterious champion" or earn quest points just by playing.

Rewards of the quest line “Beginning of the 2023 season”

  • 3000 blue essence
  • 8 champion shards: Yasuo, Zed, Sejuani, Pantheon, Wukong, Aatrox, Yorick, Katarina.
  • 2023 Season Start and 2023 Season Icons.
  • The image of the wards “The key to success”.

Similar questlines will appear periodically in League of Legends throughout the year. Most often they will be timed to coincide with specific holidays and other significant events.

New Champions and Minor Reworks

In 2023, Riot Games will focus on minor balance changes and updates to existing champions. Aurelion Sol's rework has already been announced, and Ahri is getting a visual update.

However, they do not plan to refuse the stable release of new characters. There are already two champions in development that will appear in the League of Legends throughout 2023: Milio and Naafiri.

The cute sorcerer Milio will become a support hero for the bottom lane, having spells from the school of fire in his arsenal. Naaphyri is a Darkin Assassin in the mid lane.

Start of the professional season

Finally, with the start of the new season, matches of the professional League of Legends will resume. The first games will start on January 14 in China.
