Riot Games Unveils Challengers League for North America
Riot Games has announced massive changes to the amateur and semi-pro leagues for next season in North America. The developers of League of Legends have introduced the Challengers League.
The North American Challengers League (NACL for short) will be a fusion of the 2022 Academy League and the Providing Grounds tournaments that run until the end of the 2022 season. 16 teams will take part in the NACL, ten of which will become permanent residents, and six will go to the North American Challengers League through open qualifiers: 32 teams will play in the qualifiers.
Regular members of the North America Challengers League (NACL)
- 100Thieves
- Cloud9
- CLC
- Dignitas
- Evil Geniuses
- Fly Quest
- Immortals
- Team Liquid
- TSM
- GSS Academy
The tournament, as is customary in the League of Legends, will be divided into two splits: Spring and Summer. The splits will be held in a single round-robin league format in parallel with the title LCS. At the end of each split, all 16 teams will qualify for the NACL playoffs, with distribution to the tournament bracket depending on the places taken during the league. At the end of each split, there will be a NACL Promotion Tournament, the rules of which will be discussed later.
