Changes coming to Hearthstone's Classic card set

We’ve (finally) gotten a response from Blizzard about over/underused cards in the form of a recent interview with Ben Brode, and what he had to say was interesting.

Basically, what was discussed was the stale Meta of the game, and how the new player experience was seriously spoiled due to this. As we talked about in our last article, the new player experience to Hearthstone is horrendous for many reasons, and because of that, many voiced that the game would get stale fast if the Pirate Warrior Meta stayed until the cards rotated out, in roughly two years. This could very well do quite the number on our playerbase, as well as significant damage to the eSports scene.

To address the issue, Brode said that there will be changes being made to many cards in the game, both of the Classic Set and not of it. For starters, Brode mentioned forcing some overused cards from the Classic set into Wild format, which I honestly like the idea of. Some cards, like Azure Drake, Bloodmage Thalnos, as well as many of the class legendary cards are seen in virtually any deck, and while rotating these to Wild will indeed disappoint some players who have played since Beta like myself, but it will indeed force a new Meta. Also, players who still cling to these cards can certainly still play them in Wild – but that raises the question. Does Blizzard still value Wild as a method of play, or just use it as a garbage dump to throw old cards into for those who still want to use them?

The last point touched upon was that they are considering changing or reworking some of the cards from previous expansions that are still in Standard Format, especially if they are overplayed. Some of these overplayed cards include Patches the Pirate, Small-time Buccaneer, and just about everything from the Pirate / Aggro Shaman lineups. So, if you want to see change happen, by all means, go play Pirate Warrior! Not only to enjoy its last moments, but also to drive the point home that these decks are hideously overplayed, and that should be changed.
