Halo: Campaign Evolved Reveals Three New Story Missions Ahead of Launch
Halo: Campaign Evolved received a major spotlight during the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, where Halo Studios officially unveiled three brand-new story missions coming to the remake. The game is set to retell the events of the original Halo: Combat Evolved using Unreal Engine 5 while introducing several new gameplay and narrative additions.
Operation: Meteorite Expands Halo's Story
The newly revealed mission pack, titled Operation: Meteorite, serves as a prequel to the original game. The story takes place one year before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved and follows Master Chief alongside Sergeant Johnson as they investigate and attack a Covenant research vessel.
According to Halo Studios, the missions will feature new enemy variants, additional weapons from across the Halo franchise, and a larger role for Sergeant Johnson than fans have seen before.
The developer also confirmed that Halo: Campaign Evolved will launch on July 28, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
New Enemies, Space Combat, and a Warthog Run
The reveal trailer showcased several new gameplay sequences from Operation: Meteorite.
Players can expect:
- Ground combat against a new heavily armored Brute enemy
- A space mission involving a Covenant Phantom variant
- New weapons from across the Halo universe
- A classic Warthog run sequence
The trailer suggests Halo Studios is aiming to blend familiar Halo gameplay with entirely new scenarios created specifically for the remake.
A New Direction for Halo Remakes
Originally announced during the Halo World Championship 2025, Campaign Evolved marks the first major Halo remake developed in Unreal Engine 5. The project has generated discussion among longtime fans due to additions such as sprint mechanics and entirely new campaign content.
With Operation: Meteorite now revealed, Halo Studios appears committed to expanding the original story rather than simply recreating it.
The announcement has also fueled speculation about potential remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3, which several insiders have previously claimed are already in development. If true, Campaign Evolved may serve as a blueprint for how future Halo remakes approach new story content.
Pre-orders for Halo: Campaign Evolved are now available across all platforms for $49.99.
