Ironburg Inventions and SCUF Claim $ 6,500,000 from Valve for Money Spent on Lawyers

Law360 recently released information that Ironburg Inventions and SCUF are demanding Valve to cover their attorney fees. The latter helped the plaintiffs win the lawsuit and demand compensation from Valve in the amount of $ 4,000,000. The total cost of the services of quality lawyers was $ 6,500,000, which is $ 2,500,000 more than the companies that filed a lawsuit against Valve won in the end.

They were unhappy with the technology that Gabe Newell's company turned to when developing their own Steam Controller. They stated that Valve deliberately used SCUF technology, which is the intellectual property of Ironburg Inventions and their subsidiary SCUF, to create the controller.

Representatives of the gaming giant, of course, denied their involvement in what was happening and said that they themselves came up with such a technology. Specifically, the claim was made in the direction of the buttons located on the back of the panel. Valve said that their keys do not protrude outward and have a completely different shape, but the court came to a different conclusion. In their opinion, Valve deliberately violated as many as seven patents of Ironburg Inventions and SCUF, and therefore must be held accountable for their actions.

Preparations for the trial took many months, but the trial itself took place between late January and early February. It took the judges no more than a week to analyze the situation, weigh the pros and cons and deliver a verdict. Ironburg Inventions and SCUF defended their rights and won the case, as well as received monetary compensation, but if Valve does not pay the money they spent on lawyers, then the organizations will be in a decent loss.
