Lords of the Fallen II Will Feature Twice as Many Weapon Movesets and Mid-Combo Weapon Switching
CI Games has released the 11th episode of its “Lifting the Veil” series, titled “Steel & Sorcery.” In it, the developers went into detail about the combat system in Lords of the Fallen II and showed new gameplay footage. According to the studio, this is the biggest gameplay reveal for the game so far.
The episode was hosted by CI Games Chief Creative Officer Ryan Hill and Lead Combat Designer Mike Vermeulen. They were joined by Launch Creative Team members Travis “Pastorgainz” Hughlett and Chandler Huddleston. The studio recruited this team from players who have spent at least 1,000 hours in soulslikes.
The headline feature is the ability to switch weapons mid-combo. Players can carry two melee loadouts and swap between them without interrupting an attack. For example, you can start a string of hits with dual daggers and finish it with a scythe. Switching between one-handed and two-handed stances is also staying in the game.

The sequel will have nearly 30 distinct weapon movesets, compared to 15 in 2023’s Lords of the Fallen. Each weapon class gets its own moves, including repositioning attacks, infinite combos, and area-of-effect strikes. The game also adds Counterstrikes and boss weapons with signature attacks.
Each loadout can equip two Quickfire abilities. They let you instantly cast a spell, throw a javelin, or buff your weapon without leaving your melee stance.

Magic and ranged combat now have their own stances, and your character moves just as freely in them as in melee. Here are the main changes for spellcasters and archers:
- You can equip up to four spells on one catalyst, then switch to a second catalyst with four more at the press of a button, for up to eight spells ready to go.
- Every spell can be cast instantly, and each one also has a charged variant.
- The game will have seven schools of magic.
- Mana is restored with the Sanguinarix instead of consumable items.
- Bows and crossbows get infinite base ammunition, and stronger arrows can be restocked at specific points around the world.
According to CI Games, these changes mean you’ll be able to finish the entire game using only ranged weapons.
Players will also be able to recover the upgrades they’ve put into a weapon for a small fee. The developers want this to encourage players to try new weapons even late in the game.
“We want players to feel like a Swiss Army sword, ready to draw from an arsenal of combat options at any moment. From Quickfire projectiles to mid-combo weapon swapping, players will be spoilt for choice,” said Ryan Hill.
He also promised that the studio has “plenty more yet to reveal.” According to CI Games, the reworked combat system is “built on feedback from the Lords of the Fallen community,” and much of it was made possible by the extra development time.
Last week, CI Games secured a €28.6 million loan to finish development and launch Lords of the Fallen II. The money fully covers the rest of development, the marketing campaign, and the game’s release. Lords of the Fallen II launches in Q1 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. CI Games will announce the exact release date in December.
