Jason Schreier Confirms Huge Budget of Gears of War: E-Day
Earlier this month, The Coalition released Gears of War: E-Day, the latest game in the franchise and a prequel to the original title. Despite strong critical praise, its sales were underwhelming, especially given the frequent reports of a massive budget.
It turns out the budget reports weren’t just rumors. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier confirmed them in a recent video on his YouTube channel, saying the game’s budget reached $500 million. You can hear him say it below:
"That is a real number. That is real. That's what we're looking at here, that's what AAA games cost to make. Especially in North America these days".
Shortly before that, a new report from The Verge confirmed the same figure and claimed that since release on October 6, Gears of War: E-Day has sold just 400,000 copies in total, including on Steam and Xbox. However, according to the insider MrMattyPlays, Gears of War: E-Day is the first game in a trilogy, and the $500 million figure allegedly covers all three games, plus the story DLC for E-Day, not one game alone. Either way, sales of the new title are unlikely to satisfy Xbox.
Gears of War: E-Day is available on PC and Xbox Series X/S and through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
