Gears of War: E-Day Is Reportedly First Game in a Planned Trilogy
The Gears of War series received a major addition this month, as The Coalition released a game subtitled E-Day, which once again puts Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago in the spotlight. Gears of War: E-Day serves as a prequel to the very first installment, and it appears the developers intended the project to be the start of a new trilogy.
Neither The Coalition nor Xbox has officially made such statements, but the info came from a new video by the well-known insider MrMattyPlays. According to him, Gears of War: E-Day is planned to be a trilogy, which will likely delve deeper into the story of Marcus and Dom. Previously, studio head Mike Crump had already stated that developing a new game in the series would take much less time, which is indirectly confirmed by Mr. MattyPlays' comments, as you can check out below:
We should also note Gears of War: E-Day introduced a new playable character—Mags Carter—a move that was not well-received not only by the franchise's fans but also by its former producer, Laura Fryer. Future Gears of War games may well devote even more time to her, but several developers at The Coalition have also stated Marcus and Dom are the true faces of Gears of War, defining the series’ legacy.
Kotaku also recently revealed the budget behind Gears of War: E-Day was $500 million. Considering that the game's sales were reportedly lower than expected, this could serve as a warning sign for the release of future projects, although no official figures have yet been released by The Coalition or Xbox.
Gears of War: E-Day is available on PC and Xbox Series X/S and through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
