Marcus and Dom Might Appear in More Gears of War Games
This week, The Coalition released Gears of War: E-Day, a new entry in the franchise. It is a prequel to the original game and puts Marcus and Dom, the series’ main characters, back in the spotlight. Players and critics have praised it, and in a recent interview, the developers teased the duo could return in future games.
Several The Coalition developers, including studio brand director Nicole Fawcette, studio art director Aryan Hanbeck, and studio creative director Matt Searcy, spoke with The Expansion Pass about what’s next for Gears of War. According to Fawcette, the team chose to focus on Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago because there are many strong stories to tell about them, stories that show them from a human side first. Searcy added that this pair defines the series’ legacy, which makes it possible to make prequels without inventing entirely new stories.
This suggests The Coalition may not want to continue the storylines from Gears of War 4 and Gears 5, which got a mixed reception from critics and gamers. In another interview, studio head Mike Crump claimed a new Gears of War game will take much less time to make than E-Day did. Given his colleagues’ comments, it’s not hard to guess what the next project might be like.
Even though critics and players have praised Gears of War: E-Day, its first days of sales haven’t been impressive. According to Alinea Analytics, only 230,000 copies were sold on Steam and Xbox, with revenue of just over $37 million. It’s not the best launch so far, but we’ll see how things turn out.
Gears of War: E-Day is now available on PC and Xbox Series X/S and through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
