The Coalition Teases Next Gears of War Release Sooner Than Expected
This week, The Coalition released Gears of War: E-Day, a new game in the franchise. The title is a prequel to the original game and has already become one of the year’s most acclaimed releases. And according to the studio, the next game in the series could also arrive sooner than expected.
Mike Crump, head of The Coalition, stated this in a recent interview with the BBC. As we recall, before Gears of War: E-Day, the studio last released the fifth installment back in 2019. Crump suggested that the next game will take much less time to develop, since E-Day has laid a strong foundation for future projects.
The Coalition says the next Gears of War game won’t take nearly as long to make. Studio head Mike Crump says Gears of War: E-Day has given the team a solid foundation, so they won’t start from scratch again.
“The next game will not take nearly as long.”
Crump called E-Day a “great foundation” for future Gears games.
Crump made no promises about future layoffs, but said the team must focus on what it can control.
Meanwhile, Liam J. McIntyre, the voice actor for JD Fenix, revealed in a spring interview that The Coalition had considered making Gears 6, and the idea may come back. Gears of War: E-Day also introduced a new playable character, Mags Carter, though not all fans were happy with that decision. Mostly, because, according to players, she overshadows Marcus and Dom.
Either way, Gears of War: E-Day is a big step forward for the franchise. Critics praised it so well - it has a score of 87 on both Metacritic and OpenCritic, where 91% of critics recommend it. The game is now available on PC and Xbox Series X/S and through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
