New Rumors About PlayStation 6 and Project Helix - Price and Physical Media
It is still unclear when Sony and Microsoft will face off again with their next-generation consoles, the PlayStation 6 and Project Helix. Much about the devices is still under wraps, but new rumors from well-known insiders keep appearing online.
Some new information has recently surfaced about both consoles, and it should be treated as rumor for now. On the PlayStation 6, well-known insider KeplerL2 shared on the NeoGAF forum that Sony’s costs for RAM and an SSD in the PS6 are reportedly over $680. This summer, the same source reported that the console’s production cost was allegedly approaching $1,000. Now it seems that the final price could end up very close to that.

On the next-generation Xbox, Project Helix, the information is different and comes from an insider named eXtas1s. According to his exclusive report, Microsoft is considering continuing to release games in physical format. He points to a job posting for an Xbox Games Supply Strategist, whose duties include “managing the entire lifecycle of physical media, including manufacturing, distribution, inventory, and retail sales.” As we know, Xbox announced a “disc-to-digital” feature this summer, but the insider suggests the company will still rely on discs, especially since its direct competitor Sony will gradually phase them out, a move also announced this year.
CONFIRMED: Xbox Helix, The Next-Generation console, will feature a Built-in Disc Drive.
Microsoft is expanding its Xbox physical supply operation:
- Manufacturing
- Global distribution
- Sales and channel execution
- Inventory positioning across the full product lifecycle
This will create a HUGE shift in the industry. This is a massive win for Xbox and leaves Sony cornered by their reckless 2028 digital-only decision.
Both reports need further confirmation and should not be treated as certain. The same goes for earlier rumors that the PlayStation 6 and Project Helix will both launch in 2027. Microsoft had hinted at this before, but this summer Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki confirmed the company still has no specific release date for its next-generation system.
