Directive 8020 Will Receive Multiplayer Mode Next Week

Released this spring, Supermassive Games’ Directive 8020 received mixed reviews and is arguably the weakest entry in The Dark Pictures anthology. But as soon as next week, the game will get a long-awaited update that adds online multiplayer.

The developers announced that on October 19, Directive 8020 will add online play for up to four players, a feature that was previously available only in local multiplayer. In a social media post, which you can see below, Supermassive Games also gave the exact time the feature will go live.

Teamwork makes the dream work. Mostly. Gather your crewmates - Online Multiplayer for Directive 8020 releases Monday 19th October, 3pm BST/ 2pm UTC.

Last week, Supermassive Games also announced another round of layoffs, with 70 employees leaving the company. The first reports surfaced back in August, and the studio has now made the decision official. Even with the cuts, the team is still supporting Directive 8020, as the multiplayer announcement shows.

Directive 8020 is an interactive drama with sci-fi and survival horror elements. As in previous projects in The Dark Pictures series, the characters must contend with various creatures, but this time the threat is more serious; the extraterrestrial beings are capable of taking on the form of any crew member. Marvel Cinematic Universe star Lashana Lynch plays the lead role in Directive 8020, lending her looks and voice to a character named Brianna Young.
