Switch 2 Version of Starfield Could Be Delayed or Even Cancelled

Rumors have been circulating for a while that Starfield, the sci-fi RPG from Bethesda Game Studios, will come to Nintendo Switch 2 sooner or later. The port is believed to have been in development for some time, but a recent update claims it is running into difficulties.

Insider NateTheHate has long been the main source of news about Starfield on Switch 2. When asked about the port again on X, he replied that development has hit problems and that he doesn’t rule out another delay. You can check out his answer below:

Hi NateTheHate! Any updates on Starfield and DOOM: The Dark Ages for Switch 2? You previously reported Starfield for 2026 back in August 2025. Are both games still planned for Switch 2, potentially in 2027, or have you heard anything about delays or cancellations? Thanks!

Starfield port for Switch 2 hit lots of obstacles and development hurdles. I don't know if it has been shelved or not at present; but it wouldn't surprise me.

Bethesda is unlikely to cancel the Switch 2 version, since it received an official rating this summer, which confirms it exists. Still, the studio hasn’t made any official statement. You can also purchase Starfield on Eneba with a -5% discount using the promo code EGW5.

Recently, the studio also published a recap of the three-year support cycle for its RPG, covering all the updates and DLC Starfield has received. Bethesda Game Studios again confirmed that it plans to keep expanding the game’s universe.

Interestingly, Kurt Kuhlmann, the former lead systems designer on Starfield, recently stated Bethesda probably won’t make a sequel, because he believes the original title wasn’t that successful for the studio. According to figures from April this year, about 5 million copies were sold across all platforms.

Starfield is available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
