Red Dead Redemption 2 Release on Switch 2 Is Reportedly On Hold

Last December, Rockstar Games released the original Red Dead Redemption on the Switch 2, and some fans would love to see the sequel on Nintendo’s console too. Earlier rumors already hinted at this, but the latest unofficial reports claim work on the port isn’t going as it should.

Rockstar is still staying silent about a possible RDR 2 release on Switch 2, but well-known insider Nash Weedle thinks it will most likely happen. Someone asked him on social media how likely a port is on a scale of 1 to 10. He answered 9, but added that the project is currently on hold. You can check it out below:

Naaash! I’m throwing one of those questions your way—the kind I like and you always tend to answer... On a scale of 1 to 10, as far as you know (or suspect), how likely is the release of RDR2 on the Switch 2?

A possible number 9, but it’s currently on hold.

It’s no surprise the studio isn’t looking at other projects, including an RDR 2 port for Switch 2, since its whole focus is on GTA 6, which launches next month on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. That is also why we still haven’t heard anything about Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake, announced in 2022. Remedy Entertainment, the developer, recently revealed that it's because Rockstar serves as the publisher, and it handles all the marketing. News about that project will likely start coming in 2027, and maybe about Red Dead Redemption 2 for Switch 2 too.

Speaking of GTA 6 and Switch 2, Nintendo of America President Devon Pritchard recently stated the game could come to the platform, but the final decision is up to Rockstar and Take-Two. Meanwhile, GTA 6 may soon face serious trouble. Hacker Cyberleek, who leaked more than a dozen GTA 6 gameplay clips this summer, returned this week. He recently announced that if his crypto wallet reaches $30 million, he will leak a fully playable build of the game. A few hours ago, he also published another leak that shows a fully nude Lucia.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 5. It can also be played on current-gen consoles through backward compatibility.
