Massive Entertainment Is Now in Charge of Ubisoft Franchises - Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, and The Division

Ubisoft's restructuring, announced earlier this year, is still ongoing. This time, three of the company's major franchises have been consolidated under a single large division.

Massive Entertainment, a major Ubisoft studio known for The Division series as well as Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, announced on its website that it's now considered as Creative House 2 and will oversee development for Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell going forward. The division now covers every active studio under it, including offices in Paris, Montreal, Sweden, and Toronto. Christoph Hartmann, previously at Amazon Game Studios and known as the founder of 2K Games, has been named head of Creative House 2. “Massive Entertainment has always been defined by passion, ambition and incredible talent, and our focus now is on what comes next. Bringing our teams together under one identity gives us the opportunity to combine the creative energy and expertise across Montréal, Paris, Sweden and Toronto to shape the next generation of these iconic franchises, create new games and IPs, and push our craft and technology forward.”

As for what's coming, work continues on The Division 3, positioned as the series' most ambitious entry yet. A new Ghost Recon was also officially confirmed this summer, though it's still early in development and has reportedly hit some technical snags along the way. On the Splinter Cell side, Ubisoft is still working on the remake of the original game, announced back in 2021. Screenshots from an early version of the game have recently surfaced, and according to Insider Gaming, Ubisoft is actively hiring for the project.

Originally, Massive Entertainment had reportedly planned six expansions for Star Wars Outlaws, though only two ultimately shipped, a result of Ubisoft's expectations for the game not matching reality. That also led to the cancellation of a planned sequel. Whether a second game eventually happens down the line may depend on how Creative House 2's other projects perform.
