Xbox Is Preparing Its Own Answer to PlayStation's Platinum Trophy: What We Know About Mythic Achievements

Xbox is getting ready to launch Mythic Achievements, a new reward for fully completing a game that will serve as its answer to PlayStation's Platinum Trophies. Microsoft hasn't officially announced the feature yet, but details have already emerged thanks to a TrueAchievements report and data from an update to the Xbox PC app.

To earn a Mythic Achievement, you'll need to unlock every achievement in a game's base list. Achievements from DLC and those added through title updates won't count, so you won't have to buy expansions just to get a Mythic. The notification text players will see after earning the reward was also found in the app's code:

At the same time, Mythics won't award any Gamerscore. Instead, player profiles will get a separate counter for all Mythics earned, visible to other users. According to TrueAchievements, the Gaming tab on profiles will also be updated to show total Gamerscore, number of achievements, and number of Mythics, while the artwork of games with a Mythic will be decorated with a green star, a laurel wreath, and a green border. The new system will also help you track your progress. Each game's page will show how many achievements you have left before earning the Mythic, and a special filter will hide the ones that aren't required for it.

But the best news for achievement hunters is that Mythic Achievements will be retroactive. All games where players have already completed the base achievement list will automatically receive a Mythic once the feature launches, so there's no need to replay them.

The Mythic Achievement will have its own icon, animation, and sound. They were discovered by insider Klobrille in a new update to the Xbox PC app:

The first mentions of Mythic appeared back on September 19, when Xbox Insider member Stallion83 spotted a "Completed Mythic Achievement" filter in a test build. And Xbox CEO Asha Sharma had already hinted at a Platinum Trophy equivalent back in August. There's no exact launch date for Mythic Achievements yet. Xbox Insider members are expected to test the feature first.
