Ubisoft Is Still Working on the Long-Troubled Title Announced Nearly 20 Years Ago

2026 has been a challenging year for Ubisoft. As part of a restructuring process, several games—including some that hadn’t even been announced—were canceled, divisions were shut down, and lots of employees were laid off. Strangely enough, a game that was originally announced back in 2008—and which still doesn’t have a clear release date—somehow managed to survive this chaos.

The game in question is Beyond Good and Evil 2. Ubisoft first unveiled the game back in 2008. At the time, it was considered a direct sequel to the original, but in 2017, during the E3 presentation, the studio revealed a new take on the game, which turned out to be a prequel. A year later, the developers showed gameplay from an early version, and since then we haven’t seen any new footage or detailed information.

Despite this, a new report confirms Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still in development. Rik Godwin, narrative director at Ubisoft Bordeaux, shared this news on his Bluesky page. He also added he has been actively working on the game as a consultant over the past two months, as you can check out below:

Earlier this year, reports emerged stating that development on Beyond Good and Evil 2 is ongoing despite the challenging situation at Ubisoft. Based on the latest update shared last month by insider Nash Weedle, the game might even be showcased again this year at The Game Awards and could even be released on the Nintendo Switch 2. However, this information should be treated as a rumor.

Ubisoft's next title, Rayman Legends Retold—a remake of the original 2013 game—will release on December 3 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The studio recently revealed the official system requirements for the game's PC version.
