Electronic Arts Reportedly Cancelled New Fight Night Video Game

There aren't that many boxing games out there. At one time, Fight Night—a game series developed by Electronic Arts that released five titles over seven years—held the top spot in this category. It turns out the studio had been working on a new project, but it seems that, as of now, it's no longer in development.

During a recent episode of the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, it was reported EA had been working on a new Fight Night game, but active development on the title ceased about a year ago. It is unclear at what stage of development the game was. However, it's been added the series isn’t completely dead and could still make a comeback. The reason for this is Electronic Arts’ new owners—this summer, the company was acquired by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners.

The thing is, Saudi Arabia has close ties to the world of boxing. The country frequently hosts fights featuring top boxers and contract signings. Not to mention that the country owns The Ring Magazine.

Back in 2021, there were already rumors EA had given the green light to develop a new Fight Night game, but that the project was on hold. Most likely, this is the very same game that Insider Gaming's representatives mentioned.

The latest game in the franchise to date, Fight Night Champion, was released in 2011 and, for the first time in the series' history, featured a full-fledged story mode as well as cinematic visuals.
