Alan Wake II Looks Like a Completely Different Game with a First-Person Narrative Mod

Alan Wake II, released by Remedy in 2023, became one of the best games of that year, finally revealing what happened to the writer after the original game. It also introduced a second playable character, FBI Agent Saga Anderson, on top of its deeper ties to Control, another Remedy title, released in 2019.

Meanwhile, a modder's working on a project to fundamentally reshape Alan Wake II. Reddit user uberfakeart announced a mod called First Person Narrative, which, as the title suggests, converts the game to a first-person perspective. It's still early in development, but the creator has already shared initial footage on Reddit and social media. It’s worth noting the perspective shift has noticeably changed the feel of the game, making it more atmospheric and pushing it closer to the survival horror genre. For now, it remains unclear when the mod will be available for download, but fans are certainly eager to return to Bright Falls and other iconic locations and experience the game in its updated state.

Meanwhile, Remedy's new game, Control Resonant, launches this week. Critics have already shared their reviews, which have turned out largely positive. The game is expected to have some connections to Alan Wake II in some way, given both share the same universe. It's possible Control Resonant references, or even features, Alan Wake and his wife Alice as part of setting up future story threads, though that's still speculation for now. Given how often Remedy has planted seeds for future projects within its games before, it wouldn't be surprising. That's especially true since the studio recently renewed the "Alan Wake Returns" trademark, which could be an early sign work on a third game has begun.

Control Resonant will release on September 24 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
