Players Might Have Found Rogue in Marvel’s Wolverine—But They’re Not Happy at All
Marvel's Wolverine, the new Insomniac Games title released this week, significantly expands on the Earth-1048 universe first introduced in the Marvel's Spider-Man games, both through new locations pulled from the comics and appearances from familiar characters seen before in film and animation—like Jean Grey, Mystique, Sabretooth, and others.
Fans now believe they've spotted another well-known mutant from the X-Men films and X-Men '97, Rogue. The theory stems from a scene where Mystique uses Bolivar Trask's Cerebro device to scan for mutants worldwide, revealing a girl in Caldecott County, considered Rogue's hometown in the comics, with listed powers matching "power drain" and "absorption," details that strengthen the identification, as you can check out below:
Apparently users have found a Rogue cameo in the new Marvel's Wolverine.
This is from the scene where Mystique uses Trask's discount Cerebro to scan for mutants worldwide.
Considering the powers and the location, it's probably her.
However, not everyone's thrilled with how this apparent version of the character looks. The fact that she appears to have a different race than her comic counterpart has drawn criticism aimed at Sweet Baby Inc., the consulting studio that worked on Marvel's Wolverine and has previously been linked to broader industry debates around representation in games. That controversy has also been cited as a factor in the game's notably low Metacritic user score.
Beyond Rogue, Marvel's Wolverine also includes references to mutants like Cyclops, Beast, Gambit, and Angel, among others. Players have also recently found an Easter egg tied to The Last of Us.
Marvel's Wolverine is available exclusively on PlayStation 5.
