Marvel’s Wolverine Received 'Mixed or Average' User Reviews on Metacritic

Marvel's Wolverine, a new PS5 exclusive from Insomniac Games released this week, has become one of the most discussed titles of the entire year so far. Not because it’s one of the year’s highest-rated games—on the contrary, its scores from game critics were lower than expected —but at the same time, it can’t be called a flop.

For instance, the game’s current Metacritic score is 77, which isn’t all that bad overall. However, users have a much more negative opinion of Marvel’s Wolverine. Of the nearly 3,500 reviews the game has received, more than 30% (about 1,100) are negative. Players generally criticize Marvel's Wolverine for its repetitive gameplay, excessive linearity, and especially the fact the game doesn’t live up to its high budget—which is reportedly $305 million. It’s particularly baffling how, with such a budget, Insomniac managed to produce poor-quality water and lava effects in some levels that fall far short of 2026 standards. Additionally, players on Metacritic specifically criticize Marvel's Wolverine for the fact that Sweet Baby Inc.—a company that promotes inclusivity and equality—was involved in the game’s development and sometimes does so very insistently, which doesn’t always seem logical from a conceptual standpoint.

It's amusing that, despite the mixed reviews for Marvel's Wolverine, the game has already received its first discount, as Reddit users have spotted —it's being offered by a Swedish retailer. Nevertheless, Marvel's Wolverine has received very high ratings on the PS Store —on a 5-point scale, the game has a rating of 4.8.
