Insomniac Games Fixed One of the Most Controversial Feature in Marvel’s Wolverine
Marvel's Wolverine, released this week by Insomniac, has gotten mostly positive reviews, though it hasn't escaped criticism either. One recurring complaint center on what players have dubbed the "fart gas" - a blue trail representing Logan's instincts, guiding him along a set path. Players claim it noticeably takes away from the experience of freely exploring the world.
The developers took player feedback into account by r eleasing a new update, v.01.001.005, that reduces the visibility of both ‘Scent Trails’ and ‘Audio Sense’ indicators, making the directional cues less intrusive and less likely to clutter the screen during gameplay. The studio has also stated it's considering letting players disable the feature entirely in a future update.
Marvel’s Wolverine got a new update, and Insomniac has finally toned down the blue “fart gas” visuals.
The new patch reduces the opacity of the Scent Trails and Audio Sense effects, so they won’t be as distracting while you’re playing.
It's good to see the team responding to feedback like this. Even with the criticism, Marvel's Wolverine managed to sell 1.9 million copies in its first three days, which is a genuinely solid result. It's already outsold Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on PlayStation 5 and become PlayStation Studios' best-selling release of the year so far, generating roughly $130 million in revenue over that period.
