That’s No Moon, Developers of Crossfire, Got His By Layoffs

This summer, as part of the Summer Game Fest presentation, That's No Moon—a studio made up of former Naughty Dog, Bungie, and Infinity Ward developers— unveiled its debut title, Crossfire. It's a single-player, tactical third-person shooter where you control a mercenary named Layla Qassem who, alongside AI-controlled agent Delroy Cross, takes on dangerous missions. Crossfire leans into stealth gameplay and tactics, with the developers promising the most realistic interactions possible with the world around you.

The project's believed to still be in the early stages of development, with a release date still unknown. IGN has also reported the studio recently went through layoffs, though the exact number affected hasn't been disclosed. That came to light through staff posts on LinkedIn, and reports suggest roles like technical and environmental artists were among those affected. Meanwhile, Insider Gaming reveals that the number of laid-off employees is 14, citing former member stuff.

Just weeks after the studio showed Crossfire publicly for the first time, the game is not even out and has no launch date.

The Los Angeles-based studio was founded in 2021 by veterans who previously worked on major games including The Last of Us.

That's No Moon hasn't issued an official statement on the layoffs, and it's unclear whether they'll have any impact on Crossfire's development.

Even though the game is a single-player, third-person tactical shooter, it's been confirmed the story takes place in the same universe as Smilegate's online shooter Crossfire, released back in 2007. That's No Moon's Crossfire is set to release on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, though the exact date remains unknown for now.
