Resident Evil Veronica Will Feature Semi-Open Location and More Focus on Horror Rather Than Action
Following the massive success of Resident Evil Requiem this year, along with the older remakes in the franchise, Capcom has confirmed its plans to release new games in the series annually, alternating between brand-new entries and full-scale remakes. As we know, the studio's next project is Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of the original 2000 game. According to a recent report, the developers plan to significantly overhaul one of the game's key features, as well as lean more into horror than action.
Well-known Resident Evil insider Malik has shared new details about the upcoming remake on his X page. Citing internal Capcom leaks, the insider claims the studio is moving away from a linear structure for Resident Evil Veronica. Instead, players can expect a semi-open sandbox on Rockfort Island, with new locations, various secrets, and the ability to revisit areas already explored. Unlike the Resident Evil 4 Remake, the developers are also leaning harder into horror and survival elements—ammo and medical supplies will be limited. The insider also notes Capcom has put significant attention into sound design; players will hear enemy movements, the wind rustling, and even raindrops hitting the ground. New details about Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake
- Leaks suggest the game will deviate from its traditional linear structure. Rockfort Island has been redesigned as a semi-open, interconnected environment, offering greater freedom of exploration and the ability to revisit previous areas.
- The island will feature alternate routes and new hidden areas not present in the 2000 version, adding depth to exploration and enhancing the survival horror atmosphere.
- The game will also support 3D audio on modern platforms, with precise sounds for footsteps, water droplets, and wind, heightening the tension and terror.
- According to circulating information, resource management will be heavily emphasized, focusing on ammunition, healing items, and inventory space, potentially creating a more demanding experience than Resident Evil 2 Remake.
The exact release date for Resident Evil Veronica is still unknown, though it's confirmed to launch sometime in 2027 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. There were earlier rumors the game would be presented at Gamescom 2026, but according to the latest report, Capcom has apparently scrapped those plans for some reason.
Alongside Resident Evil Veronica, Capcom is also officially working on a story DLC for Requiem. Unconfirmed reports suggest that DLC is slated for next year, following Veronica's launch.
