Insider Claims GTA IV Remastered Reportedly in the Works

Rockstar Games is deep into work on its next project, and simultaneously the most anticipated game of 2026—Grand Theft Auto VI. Even so, fans believe, and even expect, the studio is also working on remasters of its older titles. Especially, a lot of players have been hoping for an updated GTA IV for years, and according to a new rumor, that wish might come true as early as next year.

An insider at TCMFGames —who previously revealed accurate information about the new John Wick game —now claims Rockstar is indeed working on an enhanced version of GTA IV for current-gen consoles. According to the insider, this won't be a remake but a remaster, similar to what Rockstar Games did with 2010’s Red Dead Redemption, updated and re-released last year. You can expect such improvements as high-resolution textures, 60 FPS, more detailed environment and more. TCMFGames also claims the first official word on GTA IV Remastered could come as early as next year, as you can check out below:

GTA 4 PS5 version is coming per rumors

The rumor was focused on this coming to PS5 similar to RDR 1 an enhanced port

Since GTA 6 is the main focus for rockstar we probably won’t hear about it soon

If this is still happening we could hear about it probably in 2027 after the launch of GTA 6

There’s also the Max Payne remakes which could also be launching in 2027 that could also take the focus as well

Interestingly, Jason Zumwalt, the voice actor for Roman Bellic in GTA IV, recently gave an interview where he stated that he'd love to see a remastered version of the game and doesn't understand why Rockstar hasn't done it yet. GTA IV is widely considered one of the best games in the franchise, and it still holds up nearly 20 years later. It also ties into GTA 6 in a few ways, as Lucia, one of the game's protagonists, grew up in Liberty City, and rumors suggest Luis Lopez—a character from The Ballad of Gay Tony, DLC for GTA IV— will also make an appearence. On top of that, Liberty City is expected to appear in an upcoming GTA 6 trailer, which, according to recent insider’s report, could be revealed in the coming days.

For now, Rockstar Games hasn’t confirmed the studio is working on GTA IV Remastered, so this report should be considered with a grain of salt.
