Jason Zumwalt, the Voice of Roman Bellic, Wants to See the Remastered Version of GTA IV

Amid the massive anticipation for GTA 6, some franchise fans are hoping to see an enhanced version—whether a remaster or a remake—of one of the series' best titles, Grand Theft Auto IV, released back in 2008. It turns out one of them is Jason Zumwalt, the voice actor for one of the best characters in the game, Roman Bellic.

Recently, Zumwalt spoke to Love it Film on its YouTube channel, where he talked about what it was like to play Niko Bellic's brother and shared other details about GTA IV. Naturally, the conversation turned to the possibility of a remastered version of the game. The actor expressed his desire to see an updated version of the game, as he believes GTA IV has the best storyline in the entire franchise and feels that Rockstar Games is fully capable of making a remastered version. You can check out more of Jason Zumwalt's interview below:

“I would love to see it. It feels like they could do it. You know, the graphics are still there. The motion is all still there. It all still works really well. I don’t know why they haven’t done it yet. Maybe it has something to do with those SAG contracts; maybe opening up that can of worms is something that they’re just not willing to do if it is a can of worms. But I know that when I did the rent Roman thing, it happened to coincide with Michael bringing up his money situation and Rockstar in The New York Times. We both kind of came under fire, and we were both like, ‘Man, are we not gonna get brought back to do these DLCs?’ But they ended up bringing us back.

So, I don’t know. I’d love to see it. I don’t think I’m being biased because I hear other people say it all the time. I think it is the best Grand Theft Auto story, and I think it is the best because it’s the most intimate. It’s the most relatable.”

When Zumwalt mentions SAG, he's referring to the controversy involving Michael Hollick, the voice actor for Niko Bellic in GTA IV. After the game's release, Hollick revealed that he was paid only $100,000 despite the project's massive success. It's likely that legal complexities with SAG-AFTRA could be the main reason Rockstar Games still hasn't made a remastered version of GTA IV, as it likely doesn't want to go through the same experience again.

At the same time, not long ago, insider NateTheHate confirmed that there is currently no work underway on a remastered version or a remake of GTA IV. This isn't surprising, as Rockstar Games' main priority is the sixth installment of Grand Theft Auto, which is set to release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
